Getting to Rhode Island
Rhode Island T.F. Green is the in-state airport just south of Providence, and Boston Logan an hour north is the bigger alternative. Amtrak's Northeast Corridor stops in Providence, Kingston, and Westerly, and the Block Island ferry runs from Point Judith.
Flying in
Rhode Island T.F. Green International Airport (PVD) in Warwick sits about ten miles south of downtown Providence and is the easy in-state option, with a rail and bus station at the airport linking to Providence and onward.
Boston Logan, roughly an hour north, has far more flights and is often cheaper or more convenient for international arrivals; many visitors fly into Logan and drive or take the train down.
Arriving by train and car
Amtrak's Northeast Corridor runs through the state with stops at Providence Station, Kingston (for the University of Rhode Island and South County), and Westerly near the Connecticut line, so the train is a genuine option from Boston, New York, and beyond.
By car, Interstate 95 cuts diagonally across the state and Interstate 195 heads east toward the bay towns and Massachusetts. Distances are short — you can cross the whole state in about an hour outside summer beach traffic.
Getting to Block Island
Block Island is reached by ferry, most reliably from the Port of Galilee at Point Judith in Narragansett, with both traditional car ferries and faster passenger boats; a seasonal high-speed ferry also runs from Newport.
Book car-ferry space well ahead in summer, or leave the car on the mainland and bring a bike, since the island is small and parking is limited.
